Gov. Justice Announces Transportation Alternatives Grant Awards in Wood County

CHARLESTON, WV - Today, Gov. Jim Justice awarded three Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails program grants. The West Virginia Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program is administered by the West Virginia Department of Transportation and funded by the Federal Highway Administration. These grants help towns and cities build and improve sidewalks, lighting, and rail trails.

The projects awarded include:

Wood County Commission: Land Acquisition for North Bend Rail Trail Extension to Corning Park Project is being recommended for $223,200 in federal funding. This is for the acquisition of CSX rail right-of-way between Parkersburg and the existing North Bend Rail Trail. The total project cost is $279,000.
Town of Cairo: Sidewalk Improvements Phase 3 Project is being recommended for $311,346 in federal funding. This is for construction of approximately 1,500 linear feet of sidewalk along WV 31 south of the Town of Cairo.
City of Pennsboro: Sidewalks improvements project is being recommended for $200,000 in federal funding. This is for construction of approximately 2,000 linear feet of sidewalk along Kimball, Stadium, Broadway, Masonic, Collins, and Main Streets in Pennsboro.

Gov. Justice will continue to award more Transportation Alternatives and Recreational Trails Program grants over the coming weeks.
